Exceptionally rare, 100% genuine whole leaf Saint James perique tobacco. Grown and cured by a small farm in rural Saint James Parish that has been producing high quality barrel-cured perique tobacco for generations.
Often considered the truffle of pipe tobaccos, perique is used as a component of various blended pipe tobaccos, as many people consider it too strong to be smoked pure. If you are looking for a more mild Virginia Flue Cured to blend, try our "Canadian Virginia Flue Cured Tobacco Leaf".

Description
Leaf Only is extremely happy to have finally added perique to our whole leaf lineup! It's not that perique itself is so hard to find, but to find it in WHOLE LEAF (main stem in-tact) form has been an incredible challenge.
After slightly air drying, the now brown leaves are cleaned and packed into hickory whiskey barrels. The tobacco is kept under pressure using oak blocks and massive screw jacks, forcing nearly all the air out of the still-moist leaves. Approximately once a month the pressure is released, and each of the sections are worked by hand to permit a little air back into the tobacco. After a year of this treatment, the perique is ready for consumption, although it may be kept fresh under pressure for many years.
Due to its moisture content, St. James Perique is best stored in a refridgerator or freezer.

This is an A+++ tobacco...you can tell that there was a lot of time put into this...I smoked it straight and it was very rich...then I mixed it with some whole leaf organic flue cured Virginia and it made an exceptional blend...this is some fantastic stuff.. Thank you LeafOnly!!!

Let me start by saying this is probably the best tasting leaf I've added to my cigarette blends from Leaf Only. Anyhoo even though this isn't recommended for cigarette blends adding 20% of this to my favorite cigarette blend has made it go from A+ TO A++! I absolutely love this in the form of a cigarette in my blend, below i'll show my current blend ratios for the curious. Canadian Virginia (Organic) 20% Aged Burly 10% Yenidje Oriental 10% American Virginia (Organic) 40% Saint James Perique 20% I know they say perique is to harsh for a cig, but you don't know what your missing until you try it! it's safe to say this is my all time favorite blend and i'll be buying this regularly. Its a surprisingly smooth and deep flavor. I thought at first it was going to be a spicy smoke and a good mix with a Cavendish. However, I decided to roll it up with my brazillian wrapper for a cigar and I was stunned what a beautiful and smooth experience it was. I do recommend stoving a bit and pressurizing it with your mix for a week for aging.

I am sure this is the same St. James Perique I purchased from Percy Martin about eight years ago before he started selling all his Perique to Santa Fe Tobacco Co. So I am really excited that Leaf Only has been able to source this whole leaf Perique, which is referred to as "the only true St. James Perique". The other Preique producer in St. James Parish is L.A. Poche but he removes the stems and blends the Perique with other non St. James tobacco and sells the blend to most of the tobacco shops. But I am sure this Leaf Only Saint James Perique was produced on the Martin farm (now run by Percy's son Ray Martin). This is outstanding Perique that I add to all my pipe tobaccos, which improves them all I cannot thank Leaf Only enough for adding this product.
